This weasel does not have cancer

weaselBlogging has been slow, mostly because I’m busy offline, but also because there aren’t a lot of easy topics for me to write about at the moment. So you might imagine that I would welcome any offer of assistance, such as this email:

My name is —–  —– and I’m the National Awareness Coordinator for the Mesothelioma Cancer Center (asbestos.com). [...] Right now we are trying to raise awareness about this type of cancer by contacting health/medical blogs to see if they’d be willing to post an article about mesothelioma. We have a full writing staff here and I could have a custom article for your
blog out to you in a couple of days. Please let me know if you’re interested.

Now why would they want to write my article for me? As it turns out,

Asbestos.com is sponsored by the Peterson Firm, LLC. The Peterson Firm’s office is located at: 2317 North Wickham Road Melbourne, FL 32935. The Peterson Firm is licensed by the Florida Bar Association to practice law within the state of Florida.

If you go to their website, it has all the trappings of an advocacy group. But it’s not: it’s a marketing device to draw in clients for asbestos lawsuits. And they want me to shill for them. For the record, I’m not interested.
