Patient-centered mediblog carnival
Sunday, March 29 2009
I think it’s time for a blog carnival for patient-centered posts. I enjoy Grand Rounds, but I always get the impression that patient blogs are a bit of a distraction. I thought about offering to host GR, but if I’m going to the effort, I might as well be doing it for patient blogs.
What I have in mind would be similar to GR – best-of posts for the past week or two, with a different host each time. The main difference would be the focus on patient blogs and related posts. It wouldn’t be limited to patient blogs – the only real criteria for inclusion being that the post has to be interesting to people who more or less share the experience of being ill (even if the post or blog talks about a specific disease, mental illness, disability, whatever).
If you have a blog and want to participate – as a post or host – let me know. I might not get to it for a few weeks, but I want to start before, say, June.
If you have an idea for the name – something that all patients would appreciate – put it in the comments. I’ve got “Follow-Ups”, “In Patients”, or “The Waiting Room” – but I’m sure someone could do better.
If there are blogs I should ask to participate, put a link in the comments. If you don’t know how to activate it, just type out the URL and I’ll make it work.

I’ve been reading and your enjoying your blog for a few weeks now. I have a survivor blog. If you are interested it is After Cancer, Now What? Feel free to e-mail if this would be helpful.

Great idea. Count me and my blog material in. Let’s stay in touch. Also, Matthew Zachary and I have been talking about wanting to have you as a guest on the Stupid Cancer Show. Are you a talker in addition to being a writer?
Best,
Kairol

Duncan, I am most interested!! Brass and Ivory
Count me in, too, Duncan!
We (People affected by Congenital Heart Defects, either patients or parents of patients) just held the first ever “CHD Blog Carnival” on March 24, 2009. I served as the host, and got some *great* submissions by eight authors and myself. It went over well, generated good traffic, and I even got a few “I forgot! Make sure you remind me when the next one comes around!” emails.
I think it was a great start, but was disappointed when a couple of invitations to medical bloggers were met with silence. I would have thought that they could have made wonderful contributions, but… (insert your own closing thought here)
So yes, count me in – and when it starts, I’ll mention it to my readers!
