Insurance insurance

United Health Care has a new insurance plan that insures you will be able to buy (their) insurance even if you get sick. Already sick people need not apply, naturally.

Of course, United has a terrible reputation among sick people who actually get sick – so this product basically guarantees you’ll be stuck with a bad plan. If they could guarantee you’d be able to purchase some other company’s plan, that would be different.

Leave it to United “$124 million to our CEO while we deny your needed surgery and let you suffer” Health Insurance to come up with something as ludicrous as that. Unfortunately, I think the health insurance industry is poised to co-opt universal health care. “Universal” will mean everybody but the already sick can buy into the system. In short, it means a bailout for them, so they can keep it up with their private jets.
