Suppries

As a follow-up to this post, let me say that I have still not received the stuff I need. My supplier refuses to ship them without insurance verification, which they didn’t get, despite what I was told by the HR manager. The supplier sent me an actual letter – not an email – telling me they had canceled my back order, just to make sure I found out as late as possible in the process. The situation is rapidly deteriorating from figuratively to literally shitty.

Meanwhile I mailed a check for $900 for the first two months of COBRA! to the benefits managers in Georgia. Who knows how long they’ll take to process that. In any case, I am supposed to be covered right now, but still can’t get the health care I need. (Considering how fucked-up this situation is, I’m at a loss to see how a single payer system could do much worse.)

Two things: at the first available opportunity, I am going to order double my usual amount, and again for the next several months until I have six months’ stockpile of supplies. That’s stuff I don’t technically need, but what other rational course of action is there?

Second, I am seriously considering getting a civil (i.e. not church) marriage just for health benefits. She and I need to talk to a financial counselor about potential tax liabilities and other concerns, but this could happen by early next year. I believe marriage is a sacred institution and so on, but I’m not above fudging that a little if it means I have access to health care. We’ll do the church thing later, of course.
